This last Saturday we went out to the abortion clinic as usual.  We got there around 10 and left around 12.  Although there were no turn arounds when we got there, we were lucky enough to see a turn around just as they left.  The Catholic group that goes to the same abortion clinic as we do before us had spoken to the woman, and she ended up changing her mind.  So we were really encouraged to hear that. 

Also, this was the second time that the front door of the abortion clinic was closed by a woman going into the clinic.  Because of this, we again had an advantage to talk to the people for a little while longer.  However, shortly after the door was closed, a man who was by himself attempted to go inside.  The doors wouldnt open, and he violently kept trying to open them.  When he realized that they wouldnt open, he turned and asked us if we locked the doors.  We told him we didnt have keys to the door to possibly lock it.  We also said that have never touched the doors, let alone even gone up the abortion clinic front steps to be able to.  He accused us of doing so the last time it happened and this time as well, even though we never did anything of the sort.  He claimed to be a police officer, however he was dressed in civilian clothes and accused us of things without any evidence.  It didnt bother us much and we continued as usual, but it was something interesting that happened that Saturday.

This last Saturday we were again at the local abortion clinic.  We arrived at our usual time, but this Saturday was slightly unusual.  Usually, we only have about a minute max to talk to women who are abortion minded and headed into the abortion clinic.  What was unusual about this Saturday was that we had more time to talk to these women.  The abortion clinic that we go to has double doors in the front.  Both doors remain locked at all times, but one of the doors is propped open during business hours for people to be able to come in.  Early on in the day, one of the women we talked to decided that she wanted to close the door to the abortion clinic.  I believe she was annoyed of our presence so she wanted to hinder us by closing the door on us.  Little did we know at the time, that the door was locked from the outside, which ended up working toward our benefit.  Since, the door was locked, when women were going to the abortion clinic, they could not get in.  This gave us more time to talk to these women.  And usually, when someone would leave the abortion clinic, the people waiting outside would go in, but they would not prop the doors either, so the doors remained locked for a while.  So it gave us a chance to dialogue a little. 

Although this was, so to speak, in our advantage, the day did not go very well.  Nobody decided to keep their child and the people who did talk to us, spoke with much hostility.  One of the themes that seemed to run throughout our time there was “lack of experience.”  The End The Slaughter street representatives are relatively young, around the age of 20.  Some of the women who went in for abortions this Saturday were much older.  A few asked us about our age, if we had children, or if we had any “life experience.”  They asked us these questions assuming we cant understand them simply because we haven’t experienced what they’re going through ourselves.  It seemed as though they assumed we thought their decision was an easy one.  Even though we never claimed keeping and raising a child would be easy, they assumed that we could not speak on the issue because we did not experience it.  In regards to that I have only one thing to say, you don’t need to be vastly intellectual or extremely wise and experienced to know that murder is wrong.  Murder is wrong regardless of my experiences, wisdom, age, or any other irrelevant factor.  And as much as it hurts to say, it seems that women will find any excuse to not hear us out.  But what hurts even more is that these women feel that we are there to judge them and be angry with them.  So they do everything in their power to not listen to us.  So they never come to know our true motives which are to help them, and more importantly, help their child.

The great 20th century philosopher Francis Schaeffer was known for his thoughts and writings on culture, and his belief that most moral failures in culture is because of humanism. I’m beginning to think he’s right.

I like to call this Saturday at the clinic, “The day of the ‘I know’s.” This is because more than once, when people walking into the clinic were told that they were going to be murdering their baby, they turned around and said, “We know.” One said it with a smile on her face, one while rushing his girlfriend in (or whoever she was), and another followed it up with a lovely, “Don’t make me.” Yes, ladies and gentlemen. A threat. A grown and rather large man threatened a young, almost-20-yr-old girl.

Anyways, after each “I know,” my only reaction was, “And you’re fine with that?!” That’s all I could say. How could anyone be fine with knowing they are killing a human being??!! And so this is where Schaeffer’s points begin to make a great deal of sense. Humanism. That’s the only way to explain it. All people care about is their own self, their own comfort, their own well being. So much so that they are willing to MURDER. It’s humanism that is brining the quickening end of morality, and it is humanism that is the cause of thousands of murders a day. When are we going to realize that human life is valuable? That human life is worth suffering for? Sadly, not soon enough.

The Miracle Baby Has Arrived!!

That was when our little miracle baby arrived. Christopher D’shawn Terry II was born by C-Section at the Valley Presbyterian Hospital to very happy and excited parents. However, they didn’t always feel that way about this baby.

You see, Christopher was going to be aborted on February 11, 2009. Two of our sidewalk counselors were able to talk with his parents and help them with whatever they needed in order to choose life. It was a difficult decision for them, especially since the mother was kicked out of her house after letting her mother know about the pregnancy. But we were able to provide a place for her to stay while she found somewhere more permanent.

After a number of other great difficulties, the couple was finally able to find some stability before the birth of their baby. Also, as stated in a pervious post (“My New Role”), our co-founders were declared godparents for this miracle baby! He was born 7 pounds and 21′ in and is just the cutest thing! This baby is just one example and display of who it is that we kill in the name of abortion. Let us conitinually fight for these babies and help their families in any way that we can. Christopher is just one of the reasons why End the Slaughter keeps going!

This last Saturday is going to be a particularly difficult day to talk about for me.  We arrived at the abortion clinic around 10 and left around 12:30 which is typical, but what happened in between was not very typical.  Overall the day was relatively quiet.  There was a point where a couple who was on their way into the clinic stopped to talk to us.  They spoke to us for a long time.

Idea Camp!

We are proud to say that one of our founders – Sako Kassabian will be representing End the Slaughter at The Idea Camp – Justice and compassion edition in Washington DC later this month.

As an organization, we are really excited about him being able to facilitate a conversation about the issue of abortion and working through some of the issues that go along with this. We are looking forward to things that you are going to learn and bring back because this conference is such a great tool for us. Especially since it’s free too!

Today was a bit slower and our voices were falling on deaf ears. I (Sako) had a chance to speak with a young gentlemen who took his girlfriend in. I spoke to him about being a man and loving that child as well as the mother. I told him about the risks she is going through and that there is a chance she might not be able to have any kids again. He was very responsive and we had a good conversation. I hope he made the right decision as we left before they came out.

One girl came out though, decided not to kill her child. That was awesome. The group before us spoke to her. We had a chance to speak to her and were very glad she had decided to change her mind. She definitely made the right choice!

We went to the abortion clinic yet again on Saturday, June 20, 2009.  We got there around 10:00 in the morning and it was pretty cloudy.  Why we’re not having some sunny June weather, I do not know.  It had even sprinkled a little before we got there, and again a little after we left. However, the weather had no effect on the people going to the abortion clinic.  Many women went in for abortions and testing for abortions.  Overall, the day was filled with more communication.  More women where honest and a little more open to talk with us before they went it.  I guess that is a good thing, but that ultimately doesn’t make a difference if they still went on to murder their child.

We went out to the abortion clinic again this last Saturday.  We got there around ten and left around noon.  As mentioned before, there are other medical businesses within the abortion clinic building.  However we did find out this last Saturday, that all the other businesses are closed on the weekends.  Although it doesn’t seem like a huge piece of information, but this tells us that everyone going into the building that we stand in front of is headed towards the abortion clinic.  This doesn’t mean that they are all going in for abortions, but they could be going in for testing or to pick up someone who just had an abortion.  This helps us because sometimes we talk to women who are very clear and calm in telling us they are not going in for an abortion.  When speaking to these women, instead of just assuming they are going in for a dentist appointment, we can just jump straight into talking to them about the abortion clinic and conclude that it’s the business they are supporting, regardless if they’re getting an abortion.  On another note, there were no turn arounds.  Just more men who do nothing to protect the babies going into the slaughter house, but go to great lengths to protect their women from us, who are trying to help them.
